Is this the sticker you are talking about? You are saying that is 1089 per tire?
I weight my truck with about 100 lbs of cargo in the box and me driving (160 lbs), and the truck weighed 5950 lbs.
I assumed this is the sticker he is talking about. It is yellow and says what you've quoted, except mine says 2027# (I think).
If this is the sticker he is talking about, he is wrong.
