unfortunately that is typical of a well appointed ram. They have the lowest payload of any of the big trucks. I had a 2013 Laramie 1500 and my door sticker said 1061 lbs...I was crushed to say the least (I didnt do my homework beforehand). The coil springs are very soft in the rear. I rectified that about 2 weeks ago when my 2014 3500 Laramie finally came in after an 8 week order...I now have 4074lbs payload capacity:)
Have to say, I also did not do my homework beforehand...mine rated 1069#. In today's litigious society, one should be careful to not leave themselves open for such a problem if in an accident. I upgraded to the 2500 just for peace of mind.
