I too got hung up on the 'truck' and not the stickers... Last year, I was all set to get a 2012 5.0 F150. It only had the regular tow package and it did have a #7400 GVWR, but I didn't even bother looking at the payload sticker.. Passed on that one, as I was not ready for it at that time financially anyway..
Fast forward to the beginning of this year and that's the first thing I looked for ... Was the payload sticker...
Also, looked for the big tow mirrors, which tell you right off the bat the truck has the "Max Tow" option.. :)
After comparing stickers, I didn't even want a 'regular' F150... ;) The fancier they were, the more expensive they were and also the LOWER the payload was...
Well, I ended up with this.
Pretty satisfied with the numbers and as evidence of my recent first tow with it, I think I chose wisely.. ;)
Oh, and my P rated tires did just fine.. I had them pumped up to 44 psi all around and they were solid and felt no squirm or mush in them at all.. Might have to do with the lower profile of them to begin with?

yep, I would say you got a good one there! It is amazing to me how 1/2 ton trucks can be so different on their payload specs...I mean my 1061lbs on my 2013 Ram was lower than the payload sticker on my wife's 2012 Town and Country minivan (about 1165 I think hers was). If I would have paid more attention when I bought mine last year (sticker) I could have saved myself a good bit of money, but live and learn I guess. I do LOOOOOVE my Cummins now though:)
