Dodge ram payload

I have to ask this...how can my Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie with the 5.7 HEMI, and trailer tow package with the 3.92 axle have a cargo weight of only 1,100 lbs? This is the lowest I have read of any vehicle on this forum! What happened to my truck at the factory? I don't have any other add ons than any other truck out there....
  • I believe they allow for 150lbs for the driver. So if you load everything into the trailer and not into the bed of the truck given your tongue weight you should be ok. The distribution hitch also puts about 20% of the tongue weight back on the trailer. I would load up like I stated above and hit the scales. I tow with a 1/2 ton and have no issues.

    Absolute baloney...
Truth: 1/2 trucks are just fine IF they are teamed with the proper combination for their rating.

(so, do folks need that dually to haul their hybrid, or small light weight TT?)
  • Biggest ram 1500 = lowest payload. The 20" wheels hurt the payload.

My quad cab sport has a payload of 1600 lbs. Not all rams are that low.
  • Yup. Posted right on the door!
I have even looked at other Rams and not seen this low a number before. Most are around 1300. Even Doddge's website says 1300 for the Laramie 4X4 1500 with the trailer tow....
  • Are you sure of the figure?

If it is what is posted on the door sticker than your particular vehicle options are limited to that weight.
  • I have Goodyear HP Wranglers on the truck. I went to my tire guys about getting LT tires (believe me, this guy knows tires), and he said not to waste my money as my tires were plenty good for that trailer I have...
He could have easily sold me new tires if he wanted too...

That was one of the reasons I bought a Big Horn with a Quad, it had about 160 lbs more payload than the Laramie.

The factory Laramie with a quad cab, 4x4 and auto tranny has a payload of 1327 lbs, the Big Horn has 1485 lbs.
  • 1100 lbs, just over 1/2 ton, 1500 is a 1/2 ton truck. Probably has P rated tires. 1/2 ton trucks are for commuters not haulers.
  • Hitch weight of 745. I weigh 160. Wife 100 and kids 100 combined....
  • Nothing new here. Typical Ram 1500. How much over the 1500 GVW are you?
