If you have a soft, wallowing ride even with your WDH setup, bags might help. Also heavy duty shocks, and the stiffer side walls of LT tires will help with tire squirm. None of these replace the WDH.

You adjust your WDH *after* any changes in your suspension though. So set the bag air pressure for the ride you want, then adjust the WDH to bring the front fender back to where you want it.

Thanks for the input. It rides rather well and it's really not mushy; I inflate the tires to their max. Having said this, it doesn't feel as stiff my Ram 2500 which is expected but the ride is a lot smoother. The 2500 did give me the flexibility of pretty much ignoring how I load stuff.

I agree with a lot of people about the inconsistency of numbers. My truck is "rated" to pull 10050 lbs. my GCWR is 15,500 lbs.
my truck weight around 6,000 lbs. see what I'm saying here? They contradict. Impossible to tow 10050 lbs and be under my GCWR.
Am I learning?

I think if most of us new ahead of time about max cargo, loaded trailer, and other details of TT world we would be better at selecting out TVs. However most of us go with what we have. That is how my 200 hp. truck came to haul a 5000 lbs. trailer. Let’s just say it was slow but sure going. ;)

I will say my TT dealer said my ½ ton would not haul a fifth wheel but outside of that there was no way for him to know the specific ratings on my truck.

I agree that you would indeed think that the manufacturer would be a little more forthcoming about their truck models towing vs. max cargo rating, especially when they tend to advertise towing power. :@

However, it is not my call.

Guy's with a very fancy, low payload trucks seem to like them for transporting their race cars.

I'm just really confused that I have 4 tires with payloads of 2601 lbs each yet I can only load a total of 1218 lbs on my truck when the truck manufacturer says I can load 1485 lbs.

You can load another 1218lbs on the tires, on top of the weight of the truck, which is already carried by them. This will bring you to your GVWR. In short, if your GVWR is 6800lbs then your trucks curb weight is 5582lbs, leaving you the payload of 1218lbs. Of course the tires have to be rated higher than that for some safety margin.

Back in 2009 or 2010, Ram changed the frame on the 1500 series trucks. The present one is very light, as compared with the previous 1500. Take a good look at a 2010-2014 Ram frame and then look at a comparable Chevy or Ford or even Toyota.

The 2500 and 3500 series Ram's are a different story. Those are real trucks, very competitive with Ford SuperDuty and Chevy HD.
