Here are some 2014 Dually 4:10 numbers. Based on these and the fact that we would never need to tow a 29K trailer, I would get the 3:73 myself.
And yes the Aisin tranny is wroth the extra bucks.

Here's what I noted on our drive today...
60 mph = 1700 rpm
65 mph = 1850 rpm
70 mph = 2000 rpm
75 mph = 2100 rpm
Thanks for the great answers everyone! And thanks to those who have given real world numbers. If anyone has a differing opinion or anything else to add, I'll gladly listen.
Chris, thanks for the RPM numbers. I like to run between 60-65 MPH to try and maximize fuel efficiency and try to avoid trailer tire issues, so your info was good to know. I wonder if the 3.42s would bog a little bit at that speed....
As for the gear ratios, does anybody know the towing capacity for the 3.42 and 3.73 rear ends?? Thanks to all.
I have the late 11 RAM Dually with 350/800 and the 68RFE with 3:42's. 42K on the clock and it shifts very firm and has had no issues.
My combined weight is 28K. I average hand calc 9.5 mpg West Coast towing. Border to border along I-5 the slowest speed I see is 55 on the 6% grades. I tow at 62 in 6th with no problems on flat land and small hills. On the larger hills I drop to 5th. That is very close to the rpm's it would be in 6th with 4:10's.
Very happy with this combo and anyone with less weight than I haul and hills VS mountains should be thrilled.
When I get a new 15 it will have the Aisin and air ride rear with 4:10's.
