This is just an update on a rebuilt transmission I just got done because the transmission was missing 2nd gear. 165,000 on the clock and never been touched.1. 2000 Dodge 2500 47RE automatic with a 5.9 diesel.2.This Kit has Alto Frictions. TRANSTEC.3. Billet single disc front cover torque converter.4. Superior Valve Body Recalibration Kit. (Basically a shift kit)5.Torrington thrust bearing kit.6.Snap ring for overdrive.7. All solenoids and electronics for inside the transmission.All for $900 delivered no tax on Ebay. I have a friend who is a certified Dodge dealer mechanic that did an in and out and rebuild for $800. Total cost $1700. Local transmission shops started @ $2200 without the Billet torque converter which is the main strength of the transmission. With the Billet they wanted $2800 to $3000 plus tax. GEEZE ONLY 165K out of your terrible weak 47RE? Must be something wrong with the way you use the truck!

We have 140,000 on our 47RE and we were towing a horse trailer for about half of them.

Earlier today I noted in another thread that the 47RE's issues were overblown; same with the 4R100 for that matter.165k out of a slush box running behind a diesel and presumably towing a lot is pretty acceptable in my book.

That bets the 139,000 I got out of my 48RE. I spent $1900 that included a three disc billet, trans-go shift kit and complete rebuild kit. There are plenty of people that can build you a good trans as long as you/they use quality parts. What kind of warranty are you going to get. The warranty issue is the main reason I let them supply the parts. I was going to order a kit with a converter from Dave but if something went wrong say one or two years down the road I would have to pay to have it pulled and rebuilt all over. With them supplying everything I have a three year warranty on the trans and lifetime on the converter. Something to think about IMO.Don

He has been @ the same dealer for 22 years an races diesels @ tractor pulls.Thanks

Interesting information! I have heard that the CTD applications of the 47RE do better because of larger trans. cooler lines. Around here (So. Texas) 175,000 to 200,000 is good transmission life. This assumes good care of your stuff.

Hello neighbor. Come on over and take it for a drive. As to the triple disc that is basically used for heavy duty towing every day or racing or tractor pulling. Triple disc $1000 to $1500. Single $375 to $500. The Billet cover single disc is a real upgrade from the stock TC. There is more of feeling the gears as they shift instead of the feeling like a slipping transmission. The new transmission is a night and day difference from the old one. If your transmission takes a bad turn give me a holler and I will line you up with someone who knows their stuff. Thanks. I'll keep it in mind. 48RE is the slush box in my '05 3500. Since we're not draggin' an 11000 pound fifth wheel anymore (now have a TT that's half the weight) I expect things will be OK as long as I keep the fluid changed and the bands adjusted. Only problem (tranny) I've had with it since I bought it used 5 years ago was a tailshaft seal leak. That was a cheap fix.........thank God. :)

Interesting and dissapointing. I haven't had anything to do with them since they had their shop in Abbotsford. Seemed like nice family operation with a great rep at the time. Had heard they had moved.
