So I found a good deal on a 1997 dodge V-10 2500. It is the same as my truck, only it is an SLT model and has an automatic instead of a 5 speed. The truck has 131,000 miles. Are there any real issue...

Budget for a transmission rebuild or better yet swap to an aftermarket auto. Those Dodge automatics were horrible even when they were working right. Most went out between 90,000 and 130,000.
Mine went at 93,000 and cost me about $3,000 to have rebuilt with a mild shift kit. I would have preferred a manual. Even when the trans was working fine I still shifted it like a 3 speed when towing.
