V-10

It was 2006. But a motorhome could be built on a 2005 chassis and be titled 2006. Double check the Vin number to make sure it is 362 HP vs 310. Free Vin decoders can be search on the internet.

I'm thinking that only the very first one in 99 was low in power and the increases began the following year. Still many have the introduction engine and are happy with them.

2006 chassis model year. A quick check is the label for the button on the gear shift. If it reads 'Tow/Haul On' you have the newer engine which included a five speed transmission.

Ford didn't make a 2005 F53 chassis. They extended the 2004 model into January of 2006. Then they changed the model year designation to 2006 and started putting in the 362 hp, 457 ft., lb., torque, 3 valve per cylinder version of the V10. From 2000 to 2005 they used the 310 hp., 425 ft.lb., 2 valve per cylinder version of the V10. The 1999 model (first year for the V10 in the F53 motorhome chassis) they used a 275 hp. version of the V10.

There are probably a dozen different versions of the V10 used in all kinds of applications since 1996. The only versions used in the F53 chassis are the 275 hp, 310 hp, and the 362 hp.

Thanks for the info!! I have an 02 with the 310 hp, but my brother just bought an 06 and he was wanting to know. I told him i thought he had the 362 but got to looking and was not sure...

It still could be built on the 2004 chassis with the 310 hp., 2 valve per cylinder V10. The easiest way to tell as previously mentioned is look at the end of the shift lever. If it says TOW/HAUL it's a 2006 model with the 5 speed transmission. If it says OD ON/OFF it's a 2004 with the 4R100 4 speed transmission.

Many manufacturers buy chassis in lots and build bodies as ordered. It's not uncommon to see a 2006 (or any year for that matter) built on an earlier model year chassis.

Indeed, 2006 was the first year that the MH chassis got the new cylinder heads that boosted horsepower and torque.

As one thats owned both an older V10 and now one with the newer V10, I will say that the difference in power is very noticeable, too.

Ford actually came out with the more powerful V10 in 2005. Their F250 and F350 pickup trucks got the more powerful V10 starting with 2005 models. The new V10 didn't make its way into the F53 MH chassis until a year later, in 2006.

If you have a vin, I can tell you exactly what Engine an year the chassis and powertrain it has.
