does 2 #8 wires equal one # 6 or #4 for added battery

Back in the day when I was a comm tech,If we doubled 8 GUAGE,it was something like 7 guage ,wasn't a 6 but better than 8.
also run the shortest route to frame for ground and clean off paint and use a star washer if you can find one. Fuse for 40 amp as close to batt as possible.
