So 2 #8s would be slightly more then one #6 but far less then 1 #4.
Yes you would be gaining as long as the negative is enlarged as well.
I would be using the #4 for both positve and negative.
You sir are correct,its been to many years, if you doubled the wire
it was in between by rule of thumb,8+8 was 6 not four
