Domestic 57915 heat strip question

We have a 2018 forest river wildwood with a 13,500 btu ac. We live in southeastern north caroilina. Winters are mild. I've tested our gas heat and it works great. My question has anyone installed heat strips for the dometic unit? I have a 30amp hookup on our carport that I use to charge batteries and run ac when temps are hot to stage our TT couple days before camping. Wondering if heat strips would help keep things warm when TT is parked at home because we plan on camping during winter and thinking ahead.

thanks guys.. good information. thinking its not worth it.

That was my thought, after having a FW with the heat strip many years ago. Just a small electric heater would put out much better heat.

for my square footage and based on reviews one of the Lasko ceramic heaters might be worth a try

I went with the Lasko 754200, best selling unit on Amazon and it has been much better than the previous two units I bought at the local big box store.

  • We are in Texas but we use the heat strip just to take the chill off, seems to do a decent job.

    Hi,

The heatstrip does about 5400 btu's. Make sure there is not much voltage drop.

That's actually pretty good, we use a 1,500W (~5k BTU) ceramic heater and down to about freezing it's more than enough, in fact the first one I bought had a broken thermostat and we woke up to the trailer at 92F with an outside temp of 38.

  • If your going to use a heat strip, make sure your extension cord or wiring to the 57915 is heavy enough. A 5400 btu heat strip will pull approximately 12 to 13 amps @ 125vac, or approx 1600 watts of power. If your cord wire gauge is to small or to long there will be a significant voltage drop and the wiring will get hot. Yes, it should take the chill out of the TT. On cold windy days it may run a good number of hours out of the day causing a big electric bill. Hope that helps.

  • Mine puts out lukewarm air. It’s just to take the edge off not to heat the trailer......just my opinion.
