Pretty hard to change the fabric without unrolling the awning. Probably doable but would be much harder that way.
If you have actually done this job you will find the "Number of turns" stated is not enough and even the manufacturer doesn't follow their own guidelines.
OP only changed spring. Nothing mentioned about fabric.
Mine called for 12 turns.....and dang if I didn't unwind 12 turns.
Went back with 12 turns and awning rolled up slick as can be
