Don't believe the combined weight ratings

My little half ton had a rating of 9,000lb for a loaded TT. I can tell you first hand that towing only 7500 (29 ft.) TT was a horror ride from Pa to Tx. I had WD bars on that combo along with sway control.
That truck, a Dodge 1/2 Ton, reg cab, 4x4 was so unstable, we lowered our speed to 55 and kept it there. Every truck or bus that went by made me white knuckle the steering wheel. It was so bad, I traded the near new truck for a heavy duty 2500 with a Hemi. The other 1/2 ton truck was fine for the 22fter I once owned, (3800 lbs)and pulled that trailer very well.
I'm passing this on for all those who believe in towing at the top end of their trucks rating. From here on, I'm keeping to two thirds of the capacity of any truck I buy in the future for a safe margin while towing a travel trailer.
