Don't get locked in!

I've read stories of folks being locked inside their RVs (either by mistake or by some kids at night thinking they're funny). This can be at best just a prank and at worst a terrible accident (in case of a fire). I know this is not fool proof, but a simple screw and a couple of washers makes getting locked in much more difficult.

Or know FIRST HAND of that happening?
Not so and so reported that a friend of his brothers uncle nephew heard that happened or I read on the internet.

I think it's urban legend stuff - like the story of the MH driver who set the CC and went in back. I haven't seen any story where it's actually happened and I doubt "kids" would even think to do such a thing.

I can't see the cardboard door on my KZ withstanding even a gentle push from the inside, locked or otherwise.

I think if some prankster jammed my door from the outside using a chair or picnic table, and I didn't want to roll out the emergency window, a few kicks on the hinge side of the door would tear the door free from the flimsy strip-board wall studs.

Actually.....Having spent just under thirty years in and fire and EMS ---yes some of them are

Some older couples have switch from fifth wheels to travel trailers because there's less steps, and I've seen a number of elderly or fail people who are out camping because they love the outdoors so yes some of them are that frail.

I have a much higher level of trailer than yours is( mine does not have a cardboard door on it )..,and from outside I moved handle over and the door assist and put it in the lock position ----and yes it's in there really good.

  • We have 2 doors, only one have that bar.
but I always meet my neighbors on the camp ground. Open window and holla
no need to kick the door down. LOL

The tension on our's is such that a hard push on the inside of the door will move the grab handle outside.

There had been a lot of complaints at one time and some of the rv hardware companies made adjustments with smaller slots and less tension.

    Folks should test theirs.

Correct. If you're inside the trailer, and someone decides to prank you and lock you in, you're stuck. We travel with the bar swung in the position it's in there - along the trailer and not across the door.

  • Help me out, I'm always trying to learn.
What I see is the swing away handle. How does this help me from not getting locked in?
