double towing

Is there a towing dolly such as HitchHog still on the market? Would like to pull about 2k behind a travel trailer without using a bumper mounted hitch. Looking at a frame mount system and then supplement with a tow dolly.
  • DJ answer is spot on.

I pull a boat behind my 22' TT. I had a hitch shop weld a receiver to the frame. Like DJ said check with the states you are going through for the legality and maximum length.
  • I think there are only 4 states that allow double tow to require the 1st to be a 5er. You need to check the laws for each state you will travel through. I have been double towing a 2200# boat for 7 years throughout Idaho and Montana. I had a local shop that specializes in frame mounted hitches for TT's add the hitch. It is rated for 500/5000.

In fact he just finished the one for our new TT. Should have have some double tow pics of the new outfit next summer.

    Old one.
  • I pulled an enclosed trlr behind my TT for several years. It was in that 2k range. I dont believe you would need what your asking about as long as you distribute the weight in both trlrs properly.
  • Does a 2k lb trailer really need something as heavy duty as a Hitchhog? I would not think you would need any more than a good frame mounted hitch. Hitch weight should not be that much.

And as noted above, make sure it is even legal to pull a 2nd trailer behind your TT.
  • Idaho allows double bumper tows.
Having said that, I don't know the answer to your question. It isn't something I've done.
  • Check your local laws. Arizona, and I assume most states, require that for double towing one of the trailers must be a 5th wheel. Can't have two bumper pulls.
