Drain Hot Water??

Once unwinterized, I don't drain my hot water tank. I do 'flush' it a little before each trip just using the city water connection. It doesn't take long to do that.

I drain my fresh water tank just before each trip and refill with enough water to use to get us to our campground.

If you are using chlorinated water there is no need to drain. If your water heater has no chlorinated well water in it it will have a nasty smell to it after sitting for a few weeks.

At our previous house, the trailer was parked in the shade and I never drained the HW heater except to winterize. Now at this house it's parked in the sun and I noticed that the hot water has a funky smell if it sits between trips, so now I drain the system after every trip and the smell is gone.

Unless we have picked up some bad water on the road which has occurred a couple of times, we don't think about dumping our water heater or FW tanks until the camping season is over.

I have never drained our Atwood heater (plastic drain plug version) during the season and the trailer sits 3-4 weeks between trips. No problem with water smell.

Hi...We live in Colorado. During the summer if the trailer is in storage for more than 2 week I just drain the water heater tank. Easy job. Under our conditions water really get bad smell if it sits in tank for more than two weeks... Jim2007

I drain mine each year in the winter only. Never been a problem

I belong to the group that gets back from a trip and drains it and the fresh water tank, I fill the fresh water and hot water tank befor the next trip. Some times a few weeks some times longer.

My hot water get a funky odor if it sets a few days.

I flush it every two years, no draining in between.

I drain my system every time, all you gotta do is open the drain valve. I like fresh water.
