Drilling Torklift tiedown extensions

I sent Torklift an email about my issue with the Fastguns being against the fenders of my new Ram dually. I got a reply to call them. I explained that the tiedowns on my Bigfoot are apparently more inboard than others, which causes the problem. They said I could drill another hole in the extension 1 inch farther back so they would be that much farther out. Between that and putting a 1/2" eyebolt in the end of the extension it might get clear of the fenders.
Mostly posting for others that would like their extensions farther out.
  • If you know anyone that can fabricate with metal (if you do not), you can make an offset that moves the camper tie down fore or aft while utilizing the original tie downs as anchor points - This may give you the required clearance from the DRW body panel. If you try to run an outboard offset off your camper tie downs, that will cause stresses to the camper mounting locations for which it was not designed. Running greater outboard offsets on the truck tie downs should not affect the camper tie downs but will stress the Torklift truck tie downs more due to the extra leverage. From your original post, you spoke with Torklift and an additional 1" of leverage was acceptable.

Yeah, and they're $331. I'm in the process of drilling the Torklifts. I called Bigfoot last week and asked for someone to call back about relocating the camper eyes. No return call yet. I'm not sure if I can move them outboard or just fore and aft. Also not sure what to use or what Bigfoot used. Lag bolts into wood or is there a metal plate in there.
I'll put 1/2" SS eye bolts on the end of the Torklifts and if I start seeing damage to the camper eyes I'll go the relocation route. Assuming I get enough clearance this way.
  • Tie-downs seem to be the weakest point in the set, so don't do more extension than you really have to.
