Mine is heavy and I usually drop it. I have a sheet of plywood cut in 4 sections, slotted in the middle that I keep under the camper on the bed. When I raise the camper from the truck I simply create an X support in two locations and drop the camper. It provides support and stability for a large camper and was cheap to make.
I painted mine gray.
Well, I've got a transmission being built for me in Anchorage right now. We're bringing the camper up to the Golden Nugget in Anchorage for a 2-3 night stay while the truck's transmission is replaced next week.
This weekend's project is to un-winterize the camper....and make some portable camper stands.
I'm still very torn over going with the X supports or the jack stand supports in this thread.
With your X supports....do you find any trouble leveling? What size plywood did you use? Do you have a full sheet laid out on top of the X's? Do rocks mess up the edges of your X's? I guess I could put the bed mat down on the ground first....
Do you lay out all the pieces flat in your bed and put the camper on top for transport? Any concerns over sliding with the sheets reducing friction between the camper and bed? Perhaps that's what good sanded paint solves?
I'm leaning towards 3/8" for the X's and 1/2" for the support sheet.
