Your payload just got really smaller if you have a 3500 lb pin weight on a SRW truck. Also your going by RAWR which is really only the tire ratings. Even my old DRW has a RAWR of 9700 lbs or so which is almost double the new SRW truck ratings.

Was talking to my Son last night he bought a 15 RAM 3500 SRW rear air Limited Crew with long bed. He wanted to hook up to my Mobile Suites to see how his truck would do. I said it would pop his rear tires. He thought I was full of BS until I said ok your rear axle weighs about 3,400# and my pin is about 5,400#. Also the hitch is 200#+. He then said ok never mind!

I'm not trying to argue with anyone but this is way off the mark. My sig truck is 8500# with my hitch in, my wife/daughter/me in, and a full tank of fuel as per a CAT scale. IE: ready to tow/travel. My GVWR is 11,500 leaving me exactly 3k of payload. My last trailer had a 16k GVWR and was often at that weight loaded. Pin weight was right at 3k so, 100% within payload (GVWR) specs.

That said, this is my truck and trailer. Will the OP be 100% within spec? Don't know. A DRW would ensure he would be without weighing it. Only way to really know is to weigh the combo. However, if he is in spec with a SRW, which he likely would be, I say again that only he can decide if he needs the added stability of a DRW. I certainly didn't feel it was a requirement and never regretted my decision. My new trailer has about the same pin but will have a much heavier GVWR. So, in a couple of years when I trade, I probably will go DRW. Until then I am supremely confident in my little SRW getting the job done without issue. YMMV.

My buddy has a twin to my truck, except his is a diesel and 3500. 2014 3500 SRW 4x4, Laramie, leather, sunroof, heated and cooled seats, factory spray in liner, Cummins, automatic, crew cab, 6.5' bed. His payload is within 50# of 4000 according to the door sticker (I forget if its just over or just under). The GVWR is 11,700#.

My truck, 7000 curb weight, 10,000 GVWR = 3000 payload
His truck, 7700 curb weight, 11,700 GVWR = 4000 payload

His front GAWR is 6000, rear is 7000. His wheels and tires are the exact same as my truck (18s). My GAWRS are 5500 front and 6500 rear.

My 1999 F350 had a GVWR of 11,600 lbs... With just the fam and I in the truck with a full tank of gas we were at 7800 lbs ish.... That's only 3,800 lbs in a CC, LB, GASSER XL Dually.

Is what it is, you could realistically need 6,000-7,000 lbs of payload by the time you add the pin weight and all your stuff.

As someone with a SRW, let me say get the dually. Don't get me wrong, our SRW does GREAT for our TT, and would no doubt for good sized 5ers. But you're talking about quite a behemoth there.

Ram gives only the one ton 3500 a SRW designation which is what this thread is about.
Ram doesn't call the 2500 a SRW but like the 1/2 ton is refered to as a single rear wheel truck.

The tag on my 2014 SRW ram 2500 truck says;

GAWR REAR 6000 LB
GVWR 10,000 LB
