I'm following this thread with interest. We are in the process of upsizing from a PUP to a TT and do mostly all dry camping. I was afraid we would have to break down and buy a generator but I'd much rather go the solar route if feasible. When camping in the woods, do the solar panels have a long enough cable that you can move it if necessary to catch the sun?
Depends on how long you make the cable. What I did was put regular 110 volt male plugs on my panels, and a 100 volt female plug at the controller (making very sure I had the positive and negative correct). When I am at home, I pull out just one of my 60 watt panels (had mine for years, you can get 140 watt panels for cheaper now than what I paid), put it on the roof of my house, and use an outdoor 25' extension cord to plug it to the controller. When I travel to where there's no electric, I take two 60 watt panels. I simply prop them (added some swing out wooden board on the back) where there is sun, aim them straight at the noonday sun (1:00 if daylight savings time), and use a 25' or 50' green extension cord that has mutliple inputs (such as for Christmas lights) and run it back to the controller. This is not the most efficient use, but it keeps my two 6 volt AGM's plentiful.
