On a related note, I used to own a Yamaha 2400 generator and it typically couldn't run our 13.5K BTU A/C. Once the compressor turned on, it would be too much for the generator and it would go into overload mode.
UNTIL I installed a hard start capacitor on the A/C. $15 and you can find instructions on the internet. Try your 2400 as is first, but if it won't work, check into the capacitor. It worked for me.
I ended up selling the Yamaha and going with the twin Honda EU2000's.
