I've been casually looking for a 2014 - 2016 used TV, and leaning towards the RAM 3500 SRW. I recently came across a 2014 with less than 7k miles and great price that has everything I want, except it is a dually. This would be my daily driver.My plan is to update my TV, then get into a small to mid sized 5th wheel, but nothing large enough to have a need for a dually. It's more than likely that a 2500 would be OK for the size of 5th wheel I'd be into - looking for the gas vs. diesel, but advice on here is to go with the 3500 for the extra payload - which I agree with. I'm finding that the more I look at it, the more I like it - it's almost in new condition, but driving this every day to work just has me thinking of letting it go. I don't have room/desire to have a go to work beater car.Highlights include 6.4 L Hemi, and 2WD, priced around 32K. I'm not closed to a diesel, but the price would have to be right. We don't do as much camping as some since both of us still are working.What are the pros and cons of a dually daily driver?

Dually other than 2 extra tires when the time comes is no big deal. Problem I see is the motor. OK for some applications, but will always be lacking in fuel economy.

The only cons I can think of for a daily driver is finding ample space to park it , parallel parking can be tricky or impossible , and some drive thru's may not be doable.

Also 2 wheel drive can get stuck on wet grass. So it depends on where you think you will go, boon docking, etc. If always on hard ground, no issues.Dually's have a bigger surface area that hits the ground, makes it stay on top, think about skies, snow shoes concepts.

My dually is my daily driver. No regrets. I take up two parking spots everywhere I go. I usually don't park up front. That's something to consider. But it has kept the door dings off of my truck. And I find that I can still use most drive throughs.

I drive most every day to work and don't have a problem. However I don't go through bank drive in's or some fast food windows and park out a ways at the mall or stores. I figure the walking does me good. There was one toll booth at the airport that caused a little butt pucker due to about 1 inch clearance on each side. It's fine once you get used to it. I like a large vehicle but my wife would never want to drive something that large. We are all different so you really have to do what fits you.

It depends a lot on where you live and what sort of driving you do. DRW is a non-starter for me because of two situations. One being tight city parking garages, which I have to get into pretty frequently. The other being off-road driving during camping and hunting trips - lots of narrow, rough forest service roads in the mountains in my part of the country. In both situations a DRW would really struggle. I also do a lot of driving in the winter on snow and ice and SRW is better in those conditions.

Happily, any trailer big enough to require a DRW truck would be difficult or impossible to get into the areas where I like to camp, so I've already got a built-in ceiling on trailer size.

In my area, diesel costs more than gas - filled up this morning at 1.66 a gal. Fuel cost is not an issue, nor is 4wd. I had it when I lived up north, and having it isn't a deal killer, but I don't feel I need it living where I do and my camping style. I don't boondock.

Don't want to argue about gas vs diesel - that's not the point of the thread. Just never considered a DRW until one was dropped in my lap!

I had a dually as a daily driver for years. It's 8' wide which is a perfectly normal, legal width for a vehicle. It fits in parking spaces. Anyone who thinks they need to take up two doesn't know how to park.
I also used bank and restaurant drive thrus on a regular basis. It fits but it is close. However, there's no reason not to do it. Again, people who say they don't fit likely don't know how to drive the thing. I never got mine wedged into an ATM or anything.
You'll be wearing out 2 extra tires but that's about it.

Driving a 2015 RAM 3500 DRW diesel as a daily driver. It's big, takes up a lot of room and two parking spaces. Other drivers see it. Pulls a 7K lbs camper like it's not even there. It is the most comfortable truck I've ever driven on the road. Averaging 18+ mpg without the camper.
