Dually Truck.. What is this feeling?

X3. Bought my first dually in 2006 and haven't looked back. We were in the process of shopping to upgrade our fiver 2 years ago almost to this day and it was great not having to scrutinize every weight to determine if we had enough truck.

Ok, I'll bite. What's so different about your 2015 Ram 3500 vs his 2015 Ram 3500 that you can "guarantee" your ride quality is better? Not counting trim package is it not the same truck?

I am comparing my Dually ride to his new SRW. Both trucks have the exact front suspension.

Both trucks are 3500's, mine is longer and heavier along with this factory option. Two full length springs plus two half length springs and the bags.

Do you think it rides as good or better than mine? Before you answer keep in mind i have been in a truck like yours.

I would assume the one you rode in had the rear tires aired higher than mine. Remember we have the same front suspension. No way to prove it but I would say at least as good.

We have the same suspension on the rear too. My truck has less tire rebound to deal with.

On most roads the one ton ride is tolerable. However, I've been on some roads in Oklahoma that the constant jarring was almost enough to rattle my few remaining teeth out.

It would probably be better to say: "I can guarantee my dually doesn't ride any worse than your 3500 Ram "

With the development of more and more sophisticated cameras or maybe I should say "artificial vision" I wonder if there will be a day in the future where the truck can anticipate the bump and move the tire up or down as it absorbs the irregularities in the road?

I sure don't expect to have to do anything other than change the oil and maybe a filter or two on any of my vehicles in the time I plan to own them. Even my old 1992 Honda Accord has never had more than an oil change and 1 battery replaced in the last 15 years.

No disrespect intended but that 1992 Accord has a much better track record for reliability than the PSD. One would be hard pressed to own a more reliable vehicle than a Honda; we have owned 3 of them including our current 2005 Acura MDX.

I believe that if one isn't planning on keeping the PSD for a long period of time then they are likely fine. However, if one plans on keeping their truck for a LONG time (like I do) then I do not believe they will return the lowest operating cost due to their complexity. The 6.7L PSD is a beautiful running engine (we have several of them at my work now) but one look under the hood scared the heck out of me! :B

No disrespect either but that 1992 Accord has a much better track record for reliability than the 6.7 cummins as well.

BTW... I plan to keep my truck for a long time too and with 108k miles I'm past the warranty with no worries and no repairs to date. Operating costs has been limited to oil/oil filters, fuel filters, tires, wiper blades, and I had transmission,transfer case, rear end fluids changed last week at the Ford dealer. I probably change the batteries very soon.

Decided to pull the trigger on a new set of Motorcraft batteries. Hopefully should be good for another 4 years.

That's a good decision; they are great top notch batteries with a long life. It is all I ran in my Ford diesels too.

Does the tranny in your truck have a 100k mile service interval? I think the one in my work F-150 is longer than that. I sure had a wake up call looking for the transmission dipstick; there isn't one! :B

The transmission has a 150k mile service interval. Also I don't recall ever checking the transmission fluid level, but yes the Super Duty's still have a dip stick. Also I purchased the Motorcraft batteries since I didn't really know what other brand to purchase and the Ford dealer is nearby where I work. I've had mediocre experience with these batteries in the past.

Honda offers the Ridgeline. 255k miles is not uncommon in any brand of car or truck.

LOL that's your opinion. I've had 3 of them and they've all been excellent. Our 2005 MDX has over 100k miles on it with no repairs at all and it is fully loaded with nav, DVD, etc. Everything still works perfectly. I have several friends with Honda/Acura products with similar results.

Just because your dad had a bad Accord does not make Hondas over rated.

Google Honda Accord complaints. My dad's was far from the only one.

I thought I was talking handling rather than ride, but I'll bite. What mods have you performed that makes your stiffer suspension ride better than the more lightly sprung version?

OEM rear air suspension???? Chris

Mine has the OEM factory air, spring setup looks identical to photos posted by others in the thread with two full length springs and a couple half spring. Handles weight well in regard to sag, still rides stiffer than 3/4 ton version though. Only downside I've seen to the factory air suspension is when you tow in the snow, ice can build up on levers that provide leveling inputs and it sometimes gives a fault for "service air suspension" when you first start the truck when it's been parked for awhile then re-started under those conditions. The Flash upgrade RAM created for this issue has resulted in my only getting it once since. My fix is to Retire next year so I don't have to make periodic runs to warmer climes during the winter. I'll just stay where it's warm.
