When it comes to towing a trailer up a particular hill the most powerful truck doesn't necessarily win and just because one truck out performs another on hill A doesn't mean it will be the top performer on hill B. The Ford makes 440 HP at 2900 rpm but if the hill is such that the computer is keeping the transmission in 3rd gear at 1900 rpm it may only have around 290 hp at its disposal. The Duramax might be running that same stretch of highway in 2nd gear at a much higher rpm. I own both a GM and Ford and find the Duramax Allison is designed and programmed to operate at a much higher rpm than the Ford.
