as the battery is in the Rear of the car. under a panel.. and the rear hatch/door MUST be open to get to it.. but its LOCKED.... and there is no Key lock.

as for brackets over top of battery.. to support front body work to side fenders.. cars have been doing this since the 1960's (its cheaper)

I did not have any trouble with mine... A bracket or strut had to be removed... But it was real easy.
If this task is beyond DHs capabilities, then hooking up the battries probably is too.
Take the truck to an Autozone etc... They will install the batteries for you (if you buy from them) at no charge.

Most of that stuff is FEDERALLY MANDATED safety and emissions equipment. There's only so much room under the hood for it, and they've made the trucks large enough as it is!

I mean, if you made the engine compartment 3 feet longer, you could spread things out so they'd be easy to service...

Ditto, I replaced in DW PT Cruiser Rag Top, and it required removing the air cleaner box.

I take our vehicles to either Autozone or Sam's Club and they change them at no charge when you purchase the batteries from them. The hardest part at Sam's is eating the entire hotdog from the snack bar before they're finished with the battery.

Working smarter not harder.

A strut brace on the drivers side that has 10mm headed bolts. Water diverter on the passenger side that has 13mm head bolts.

The engineers plan it that way. Now they can charge 2 hrs. of shop time @ $160 per. to change it for you.
+ shop supplies fee, hazardous waste material disposal fee, and don't forget the inflated parts charges.

Yes, there is a support strut from the fender to the cowl on each side that must be removed, then you have to remove the hold down clamp that's down near the bottom center of the battery. They are a bit of a bear to get out, but tell you hubby that a Woman (me) changed the batteries in her 2011 3500HD Duramax.

Removing batteries is easy. Changing a headlight bulb on a 2012 well that's a different story. **** near have to pull the entire front end of the truck off. Took me **** near 2hr to do. Would like to take the GM engineer who came up with that and kick him square in the nats. Previous '02 GM truck took less than 5min to change a headlight.
