Call me crazy but I kind of like the muted diesel clatter with my Cummins. This new Durmax sounds like a very impressive truck. I'm still not a fan of the DEF tank location or IFS, but the new injection pump may prove to be a great change by GM.
I understand the concern about the DEF tank but don't get the IFS thing. What is it about IFS that y'all don't like? They sure do ride and drive nice. I'm not trying to start a bashing thing just trying to educate myself. I worked for a lawn and landscape company for many years that had a fleet of trucks used for everything from hauling equipment trailers to snow plowing to just general landscaping use. We had all the brands of trucks, cant say I remember any of them being brought in for front driveline work. The owner liked to buy cheap worn out trucks and just keep them going. The only thing he would stay away from were the 6.0l Fords, he was burned to many times, lots of 7.3s running around there though.
I've been driving IFS trucks for the last 20 years and never had a problem granted mine have been half tons and the worst they have seen was some mild off roading. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

I just keep wondering who will be first to 500HP and who will be first to 1,000 Lb. Ft. of torque.
Could be CUMMINS with 1,000'# TQ for 2019. Their emissions will be ALL downstream of the engine. They say it will add 10 percent more power and 20 percent more TQ. So do the math! - Cummins12V98Explorer III

If RAM/CUMMINS/AISIN were not available the Denali would be in my shed. Pretty sad they can't tow more than 23K. Once they get the Allison beefed up they will get over 30K like the other two have done.
Ram mafia also attacks the Allison transmission too. :R
But if it was in his ram it would be the best medium duty transmission of all time. :S

Sounds like a very nice truck. And I would venture to say that the vast majority of truck buyers don't care if it is rated to tow 23k or 30k.
True but if they could they sure as HE!! would be advertising big numbers.
Maybe. Maybe not. Lots of speculation that they have been sandbagging their HP and Torque numbers for the last several years as despite of not having the top specs they still have won every towing/acceleration test I have seen.
Why would this be different?
My preference is RAM, but I have no skin in this game. I am one of the many who will never tow that much weight with a light duty truck.
What I said has NOTHING to do with performance 0-60 or climbing the mountain. When they have to be able to start out with over 30K in tow on a very steep grade several times in a row I am guessing they could not do it. The trans is the weak link in the SAE testing IMHO. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

Yea I do miss the 12V sound but your 24V takes the prize! - Me_AgainExplorer III

Troy, you should be smart enough to know that the Allison 1000 is at it's limits and being a Ford guy that it does not compare to the Allison 3000 that Ford used with the Cummins in their MDTs. - Me_AgainExplorer III

Russ, there is a fix for that. Chris - rhagfoExplorer III:h

Made me think I should have waited and bought a 2017 instead of the 2106 model I purchased last April. But, unless I'm reading the stats wrong, it doesn't seem to have much more towing capacity. Plus, I'm with one of the previous posters. I like a diesel to have a diesel sound. I don't want my truck to sound like my wife's car. Oh well, maybe I'm just envious.
