Duramax problems

Seen freind at work have not seen in a while. Bought a chevy dully few yrs back. Said had to put new or rebuilt allison 4100$ and now has head problem 3100$ i guess one side. Vehicle has 125,000 miles. Not to bash any brand but man that sucks. If Dodge dident have cummins then there wouldent be any Ram trk in my opinion. When he was looking said my dodge 92 has 300k on it.Dident want to here it, bought the chevy. Now he is thinking again:S

  • I do not think it had any mods but he does pull a travel trailer. I agree , some vehicles even Japeneese have problems. Maybe he dident pull corect maintance. He just fells bad, also might had run hot to mess head up.
  • I don't own one but I'm a pretty objective guy, and if the story (replaced Allison & needed head work in 125k miles) is true that's very, very unusual for the DMax/Allison combo.

As downtheroad put out there (and again, if this is even real & true) I'm betting it was a result of some 20-year-old yahoo running Level 5 of something and racing Mustangs on Saturday nights.
  • Never said they did but it's a distinct probability, especially if it's worked hard

just wanted to make the correction between 52 and 53 and MYs

you know how the inter-web can be... :W
  • By chance did your, "friend," mod this truck, put a programmer on it so he could, "make smoke," and "drive it like he stole it?"

Like to know the rest of the story.
  • My duramax has over 527,000 miles on it and just top 10,000 hours.

you meant #53 block... and it was 1999 to 2001 MYs, that had issues and out of those, only some had issues, not all trucks with the cummins fell victim to the 53 block.

Never said they did but it's a distinct probability, especially if it's worked hard.
The OP also has to worry about the Killer Dowel Pin and the injector pump puking if a lift pump fails.

My point is it's not wise to bash other brands when any brand can have failures.

  • Troll.
And BTW, if your 92 has a #52 block then it's got a good chance of splitting and becoming junk - not even suitable as a core.
Every brand has its issues and it's foolish to bash any one company.
