    Very good advice.

  • I had a Baker for 20 years and all I ever did to it was change a fuse every now and then. If you are going to change it out, hook up and use the hitch to hold up the TT. much easier than trying to put blocks under the TT or A frame. You can use the bolts the old jack had but I recommend using a star washer for a good ground. as suggested above get a 3500 model, costs more but you can always take it with you when you trade up to a new bigger TT. when using the jack, do not change directions instantly, stop and let the jack rest for a second or two then change directions. you won't blow so many fuses that way and/or ruin a motor either.

Easy job, Barker and Atwood are the good ones. Someone posted a link on factory refurbed Barkers on Ebay at a very good price. Stay away from the cheaper Lippert Industries brand.
  • My 11 year old GS changed the one on his Dads TT as his Dad works long hours.
I gave a little advice but he did it in 20 min or so. I would buy a 3500 Atwood
as you may buy a larger TT then take the elect jack off and put on the new TT.
I bought a new Ultrafab and it did not last even two years. Broke down numerous times
  • 30 minute job at most. 3 bolts and one hot wire. I have a Barker 3500. Get as big as you can afford as you might want to change it to a larger trailer at some point.
  • It's not a difficult job. Just make sure not to undersize the unit you go with. There are a lot of good jacks on the market. I have an Ultrfab that came new on my TT. Make sure it has an in- line fuse on the wire. One thing you might want to look at is will it hit your tailgate when you drop it. That is, if you are pulling with a PU. I turned my drive mechanism around 180 so I could drop my tailgate down without hitting the Jack.
  • It is very easy to change out a manual to electric. Basically 3 bolts and one live wire. Ground is done through the frame once bolted on. Several brands available. In my experience it is cheaper to purchase one at a general automotive suppy or utility trailer dealer rather than RV dealer.
