Electronic Door Lock - Mod

Hello Everyone.

I am thinking of changing the door lock to our camper to an electronic one (see link below). I hate carrying keys and then have to worry about my daughter loosing her key.

Has anyone performed this modification? Pros? Cons?

Any product recommendations?

  • We have the RVLock brand also. Had it about 2 years. Only " problem" we have had is replacing batteries in it. We love it.
  • I have done several for clients. No problemo. Some require modifing the screen because of the extra depth of the battery pack.Should you go that route get a model that uses the key that allows you to rekey to a key you already carry on your key ring avoiding carryng an extra key.
  • I have RVLOCK brand keyless system works well. I have the older version. I've had it for 3 years now.

  • My trailer came with one and it is not reliable in my experience. If your door is perfectly aligned, it might work more often than not. My door is not perfect (another project on my list) and it seldom works. It is only 50/50 successful moving the deadbolt with the door open and nothing hindering its operation.

I emailed vendor and never received any response. I will be replacing mine with manual entry that has matching keys with bedroom door.
  • I have tried them 2 different times. They worked for about a week. Sometimes wouldn't lock, sometimes wouldn't unlock. I gave up and got a refund. There is some sort of clutch mechanism in the lock that I think was the problem. Then again maybe it was my door alignment, like I said after much frustration, I gave up.
Just make sure that you have a key hidden outside for when it decides not to unlock. (I won't tell you how I learned this.)
  • It's $1.00 cheaper on Amazon and you don't have to pay shipping if you have a Prime account. Even if you don't buy from them, there are many more reviews on it than the two that CW lists.

  • Easy replacement but you can get them for at least $10 less on fleabay with free shipping and no tax.
