Dumb question time... what is a "lambda"?? A style? Platform?
Thanks for all the responses. I do intend to check out the equivalents to Enclave. I asked the salesman to tell me the pros and cons of the different "sibling" vehicles vs Enclave. He said the Enclave was better made... and had more insulation against road noise. It did ride very well and was quiet. Still... not taking sales word for it. Asked him about "family discount" because DH's Dad retired from GM. Salesman said we had to have a "number" and was pretty vague about how to get it. "Dad" is deceased so no help there. Anyone know how...and if... it's possible to get a discount number?
Lambda is the platform that the GM CUV is built on. The family includes the GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse and the Buick. The Saturn Outlook was also produced on this platform.
I do not disagree that the Buick probably has some additional sound deadening, but it isn't better made. It rolls down the same assembly line as the others do and I doubt that GM assembles them any different. I know that my company doesn't do anything different on the Buick parts than the Chevy or GMC part we make for the Lambdas.
The Buick may come with more standard features or offer luxury items that aren't available on the other two.
In regards to the discount, is there a surviving spouse? If there is, then you should still be able to get the employee discount. They just need to call a phone number and get a certificate number for you that you then relay to the dealer.

I think this was a common complaint when these vehicles first came out. However, within a MY or two GM reprogrammed the shifting and from what I know it is much better today.
My in-laws have a Chevy Traverse (2wd). My FIL had stated that he gets 24-25mpg on the highway with his. Two years ago the wife and kids took a 2000 mile trip with them (seven in the vehicle) and I told her to check the fuel mileage because I couldn't believe he got that good of mileage. She verified the gas mileage multiple times and sure enough they were getting right around 25mpg.
