Enclave for daily driver

Test drove an Enclave the other day and was pretty impressed with it's handling and all around comfort. Also considering Traverse etc. Looking for a larger SUV that gets better gas mileage than my truck. Truck averages 18mpg both city/hwy. The Enclave I test drove averaged 23mpg.

Pros and cons...I'm interested in experiences and suggestions.

Thanks

  • I suggest test driving all of that size SUV on the market. We did, and didn't buy a lambda. But maybe you will like them the best, maybe you won't.
  • I had a Buick Enclave LOADED for about five days as a rental. I was putting about 200 miles a day on it...pure highway. I got right at 23 mpg hand calculated.

Very nice, powerful, and easy to drive SUV. They are considered a full size SUV if that means anything.

    Thanks!

  • And that's exactly what I wanted to know about! Thank you. The Enclave my friend has shows 23.4mpg combined average. Not ferrying kids around though. We're thinking of long trips and comfort.

They do fit in the garage easier though.

  • A friend of mine is on his 3rd GM Lambda CUV, Two Acadias and an Enclave. He got 15.5mpg mixed driving with AWD and 17mpg FWD. Pure highway he can push 22mpg, but most of his miles are around town carting kids, so 17mpg. That does not sound like an advantage over your truck!

If you want three rows of seats, then go for it. But economically it doesn't make sense. Maybe if you drove 30k miles per year on the highway.

I would strongly suggest the Ford Flex or Explorer with 3.5L Ecoboost over GM's Lamdas. Same 16mpg, way more fun!
