Eternabond help

Well just found an area between 2 of the slide outs that looks like it is leaking from the roof. Getting some Dicor for a quick fix but would like to Eternabond all of the seams. Does anyone have pictures that show how to seal the metal gutter at the top to the roof? Do you wrap the tape part way down over the face of the metal or just seal to the top lip?

I searched here and couldn't find anything except sealing around skylights and vents.
Thanks
Mike
  • This is Eternabond Flex seal applied to the roof and over the screw cover on the top edge trim. Flex Seal needs to be painted when installed but will bend over anything. After I taped the seams on the roof, I sprayed on an elastomeric roof coating.

I applied the Eternabond part way down over the face of the metal. It did a nice job.
Clean the area well and use a roller when you apply the Eternabond.
  • When i used E-tape the 1st time I didn't seal the edges using a thin film of dicor seal leveling caulk and the E-tape did lift over time. It might have been because I didn't do a great prepping job, not sure.
The 2nd time I used E-tape, I did cover the edges of the tape and it made a difference and lasted a very long time (years). I like what westend did , covering his, nice n neat.
  • Roof with one coat of elastomeric coating applied:

Yeah, preparation to the surface is very important with the Eternabond tapes. I have a metal roof so was able to use a variety of solvents for final cleaning. A rag wetted with Acetone would probably clean any EPDM or metal for preparation.
  • Thanks everyone for the help. There was a reply that had a link in their signature to their process I wanted to ask them a question but that reply is gone. What happened?

  • I never made it to posting this here on RV.net but I did on the Sunline forum.

See here with detail pics of how I did the gutter rail.

I will also add, after you are done putting the Ebond tape on, applying a thin film of Dicor on the gray Ebond sealant exposed edge of the tape will help stop dirt from sticking to it.

Cleaning and prep are paramount for the E bond and will take some time, but the end results are worth it.

    Hope this helps
