Exceeding GVWR

As I understand laws......yes I would be.

Likewise, as my 2000 c2500 has a paid for plate of 8000 lbs, if I were to go to my door sticker, great pulled over and weighed, I would technically speaking, 600 lbs over weight.

Federal bridge laws, also state, if a states enforces a lower max rating, federal road funds can and will be with held from that state. Just because you meet the max load of 20k or 34k lbs per axle or tandem, does net mean if your rig is unsafe, etc that an Leo.can not get you.off the road due to another statute, law, rule etc depending upon what that state calls them. You can also be limited per axle to 500 lbs per inch.minimum. to carry the full 20k, you will need 20" of tire per side of an axle. You may be able to go higher per axle or tire width. I know of a few exceptions....

The only place I worried about it was in British Columbia where they look at the manufacturer GVWR sticker. My F250 was loaded at 12,500 lbs with the camper on the back and my trailer in tow. With all the delays and hassles of crossing the border I rarely venture over it now (every couple of years), but my next trip will be under the GVWR of my 5500.

Been pulled over at 150 percent of door sticker, weighed, never gotten an over weight ticket, as I was under the bridge load law! RCW45.xxx will get you Washingtons laws on weights and how they are enforced. I've even had LEO's from this state pipe up that the door sticker is meaningless here. Would guess this is true elsewhere also!
NOW, not recommending going over the door sticker is fine, but to say it is illegal is incorrect.

IF you lived in Wa st, you paid for tab as far as weight, is 150 percent of tare to next higher ton. So if you weigh 7500 lbs, times 1.5 equals 11250, to 12K gvw. You would be legal to that weight, assuming you have paid for that tonnage. Does not matter if the door sticker says 8600 to 11400, 25 or 35 series on the door......

What the "weight popo" know is the little sticker on the door has nothing to do with legal weight limits. It's the campfire story tellers who don't know but continue repeating erroneous info. The "weight popo" spent hours and hours and days of training reading and learning the law to get certified. The campfire story tellers couldn't find weight laws if you gave them the section.
Manufacturers do not make the law.

Sorry Wadcutter, that wasn't intended toward you. That was directed to the ones who pipe in on every question with "what does that sticker say". Trust me, I agree with you completely on this subject.
If you notice I didn't use the term legal weight in my post, I was strictly referring to the ability to modify a truck to handle more than the manufacturers "recommendation"

And the stickers still has nothing to do with legal weight regardless if the tire sizes are changed larger, smaller, or bald, or any other upgrades or changes are made. Totally irrelevant to the topic. Changing any of that doesn't change any thing in regards to legal weight.
Sorry you think it's 'snarky'. This forum is full of 'internet weight experts' who have no clue about legal weight limits yet they continually spout off like they know something. Snarky? Nope, clearing up so many misstatements.

To help ease your (their) mind, AAM (American Axle Manufacturing) rates the aam11.5 axle that has been used in the Chevy duramax combination since day one at 10,000 lbs, Chevy designates the RAWR by the size of the tires they install and the suspension they choose to put on the truck. The difference between 2500 and 3500 is one size larger tires, and an overload spring (helper). As long as they have a set of tires that will handle the weight on the rear axle and an airbag set up (not necessarily but adds to comfort level) they will be fine. That being said towing experience is a major factor in comfort towing a large 5th wheel, for a lot of people it's the first thing that they tow that they can actually feel the weight of so they complain of poor ride and "white knuckle" drive. So can the truck safely haul the 5er, yes, will he be comfortable towing it, only he an answer that
