Exceeding GVWR
My brother owns a 2015 GMC 2500HD, DuraMax/Allison 4X4 with a GVWR of 10,000lbs. It CAT scaled with him, his DW and a full tank at 8000lbs. This leaves him 2000lbs remaining payload.
They are interested in purchasing a FW. The units she likes run a dry pin weight of 1700-1800 lbs. I'm telling her that's too heavy for her truck and should limit the dry at 1500 lbs. I considered 150lb hitch and 25% weight of cargo for this statement.
But at the same time, every day I see similar trucks towing larger FW's. I understand options affect payload. Are they exceeding GVWR without harm? How much over GVWR can he exceed without being concerned? What is the right advice to them?
