Exhaust Brake question?

My 2014 Chevy 3500 Silverado Dually (Diesel) came equipped with the brake exhaust. I've not used it yet. (Truck has less than 1700 miles so far. I've towed the trailer a few times now, with the Integrated Brake Controller and tow-mode, it's a really sweet ride.

Someone mentioned on another thread to run with the Exhaust Brake on. This is the first truck I've had that has this feature. And I'm clueless. I suppose I should turn it on and see what the difference is. Meanwhile, (this may sound stupid, but I really don't know), when do you use it, and why? and what does it do? What's the difference between tow-mode, that will keep the transmission from shifting up on down hill stretches and "brake exhaust?" Is the same thing as down shifting, only it does it automatically for you? Like I said, I'm clueless.

Any help greatly appreciated.
