One more thing about the word eco. How does a eco 6cyl get the same mileage as a big v8 but yet it's called eco???
Clever marketing scam. - MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerOne more thing about the word eco. How does a eco 6cyl get the same mileage as a big v8 but yet it's called eco???
- MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerThe direct injected 5.3 was an all new engine in 2014 . So when was the eco boost developed? 2011?? Funny how when you don't change an engine line up in 4 years people think it's no good . I really think people these days just buy the latest greatest and have to intentions of keeping for long time with lots of miles, and having to do your own work on them . Just Spin it off after warranty and keep that 700 car payment rolling!
- MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerFunny how the expedition was brake torqued at launch and Roman just dead punched the 6.2 . Not even close for accurate drag. Launch is huge in a drag race put two guys that really know how to drag race and I bet the 6.2 would be right on with 3.5
- MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerNice truck by Ford for sure. My 2009 suburban has 320,000 miles and I use it everyday for work and for all family road trips. GM sells almost 75 percent of the full size SUVs for a reason. Don't forget they will have an all new full size SUV out in couple years to follow the new truck platform. If my memory serves me right, fast lane truck did a tow test with a 5.3 suburban against the all new expedition, towing around 6,000 pounds. The burb was not off much in comparison for up and down towing. That was an 8 speed against a 10speed. Let's compare a 6.2 10 speed towing against a expedition and see how that goes? I bet it will be very close . I choose the truck that will be easier to own over many years and lots of miles, than one that wins a drag race.
- bogeygolferExplorerAgree. In my family, we have both - a GMC Denali, and an Expedition Platinum (2016). Both very nice vehicles. GMC looks better and has higher perceived cache. Ford handles better, and I LOVE the EB engine. That's the main reason we bought another Expedition after having a 2008. Old interior is fine, not great, not offensive. New interiors/exteriors should have people really questioning the old V8 GM.
And you really want a neat ride...check out the new Navigator. - mich800Explorer

Why does GM sell 3 times as many full sized SUVs as the rest of the market combined?
I think it is just market perception in the large SUV market. GM has had a lock on the luxury and blacked out "FBI" look/market. The Expedition is a good vehicle with excellent luxury packages but when you think luxury most likely you will hear Escalade or Denali as the must have vehicles. - mich800Explorer

The twin turbo will smoke everything out there, not sure why no one else is adapting this technology! Well Kia is but then they copy everyone's design and power plant. JS

Don,
I thought I recall reading an article that FCA was developing their version of an EcoBoost engine but it looks like they went another direction with the E Torque system.
They have a small turbo engine. It is a good runner in its current tune. Not sure about it in a larger vehicle than the Wrangler though. - Bionic_ManExplorer

GM is overdue for some serious drivetrain updates...the 5.3 and 6.0 are dinosaurs compared to the EB and the Ram 6.4 Hemi with MDS.
GM's 5.3 is newer than the Hemi. While the displacement is the same, the 5.3 is all new as of about 2014.
I would agree with you on the 6.0, but that isn't the engine in the Yukon. It is the 6.2, which is a very capable engine. It was just outperformed here by the EcoBoost.
To me the biggest surprise was when they showed EPA estimated fuel economy. The 6.2 has always done well here, but the Ford beat it by 2 MPG. - Bionic_ManExplorer

Because ford was way overdue for an upgrade. I just rented an old style Ex. I’d never consider it.
The EB has been in the Expedition for a number of years now. I am sure there are tests, but I don't think Ford winning an acceleration test would be anything new. The difference is the interior of the previous version Ex was very dated. You never heard a review commenting about how good it was - in fact it was the opposite.
If you look at any of the reviews of the new Ex, that has all changed. It isn't just Ford winning at the powertrain, it is the fact that the interior is now best in class as well.
