DW wants me to install an Extend-A-Shower. While I am all for the additional elbow room, I am concerned that my walls will not properly support the rod, especially during travel. The product is made from metal and is heavier than I assumed it would be. I have a wood stud on one end as it aligns with my door frame, however on my exterior side, it doesn't ling up with any wood stud. I am afraid the walls will not work for installation. The instructions say to use wall anchors, but what type would work?Has anyone already installed this product? And if so, how did it go? If this product is not ideal, what other product would work to get more elbow room. Cheers,Ryan

We have one. Installed with wall anchors. The little plastic ones that look like a bullet casings. Works well. Despite me dragging my feet to get one I love it!!

Really. I would have thought that you would need to use actual wall anchors, not just the wall plug type. Have you had any issues during traveling? You haven't noticed it getting loose?

A "molly" bolt should work for the exterior wall application.There a few different types to choose from.Depends a lot on the mounting bracket itself.

I put them into our current RV and the previous 3 RVs too! Often it was not into anything more than the flimsy paneling. I may have used plastic wall anchors in some cases, I'm not sure. I do know that some were just screwed gently/judiciously into the panel itself. None fell down. I love the product.I am very partial to the Toggler plastic toggle type anchors for RV walls. You have to find the ones that are for thin material, which is the "TA" version. If you google Toggler TA, you'll see it.

I bought toggle bolts to anchor to the wall. Worked great.

The exterior wall was a bit tricky to get in as the insulation caused a tight fit, but I got them in.

All is good. Sorry no pics as I can't seem to figure out how to post them.

I have one. On one side I was lucky to get a TT equivalent to a stud and the other, I mounted it to the side of the 1/2" thick particle board medicine cabinet.
It is OK, but you have to get used to sliding the curtain where you need it before you flip it, as the hinges make it difficult to slide the rings when it is not straight.

The extend a shower was one of the best mods we ever did on our old trailer. Makes showering much more enjoyable and adds considerable room when extended out. Loved it. As a bonus, you can hang wet towels over it. I say go for it, you won't be sorry.

It replaced the old track and roller curtain system that was screwed to the ceiling. Filled the small screw holes with white caulk and you couldn't really see them. As to mounting, it depends on your situation. I was lucky enough to have studs on each end of the shower stall so I just used the supplied wood screws to go into the studs. Moly bolts or other anchors are fine too.

Mine has been installed with one side in a stud, the other side using those plastic wall anchors, for years now. We travel off road a fair amount and it's never even come loose let alone breaking free. In fact I often forget that I've left a towel or two hanging on it. It was a very worthwhile upgrade.

In our TT there was solid backing where the old one was, just positioned it over the old screws and its good. One of the best changes I've made. Whole lot more elbow room.
