There are a lot of ways to accomplish what you want a lot of choices of the components involved. There are many 12v amplifiers on the market, some of them good, that will fit in the palm of your hand. Cost is low ($30 and up). I've been building audio gear for years and this is a very easy project.
I thought that a microphone jack was for input, not output?
