I don't doubt that they're capable trucks up to a point. The problem is they don't cost any less than an HD truck, so I just think you get a lot more truck for the same money in those models. The only trade-off I can see is that they have a stiffer ride, which doesn't bother me a bit.
A 3/4 ton or 1 ton is going to weigh considerably more as well meaning it will be able to handle the trailer even better. But if it handles it to their satisfaction who can argue that its not doing the job.
