I think someone is trying to justify their purchase.
My 2012 HD F150 handled up to 9,500 lbs very easily for the 3+ years I had it. Very comparable to a friends XD 5.6 aside from his gaser does not have as much low end torque as my Ecoboost did.
Every vehicle has their own limits and many times those limits are subject to opinion. What one person would happily tow with an HD F150, someone else may want an XD. What one person would be happy towing with an XD, someone else may want a heavier 250/2500 truck. What one person would be happy towing with a 250/2500, someone else may want a 350/3500 and so on. One persons safe towing, may be another persons recklessness just as one person's fast is another persons slow. Which one is correct is up to interpretation.
I don't have to justify my purchase, because I actually got what I paid for.
With no trailer towing experience, I ordered a 1/2 ton HDPP truck to tow an over 8400lbs dry/9,900lbs max, 37 ft TT, based on specs and information gathered in the F150 forum.
With confidence only in what I read on paper, but none regarding to towing anything.
Got the truck, and after hours of practicing in a huge lot, I hit the highway...nervous as heck.
I can't gain confidence with a poorly handling truck, and that only comes if I feel the truck can handle this trailer, because I have a 2,000 miles round trip in two weeks to my hometown.
My friends kept askin me, are you bringing your RV? Two weeks ago, I told them I don't know, because I wasn't sure I'd have the confidence to tow that far.
I do now, and a told a few friends and relatives that I'm bringing it down.
I don't have to justify the purchase, the way the truck handles this RV justify the purchase.
I wasn't talking about you... As I stated, I know what the F150 HD an handle in my years of owning one. I towed countless head of cattle with my gooseneck cattle trailer, God knows how many round bails of hay with my gooseneck flatbed, my 8k bumper pull rv, and my off road Jeep with extra parts(9.5k) all over Texas and even over the Rockies twice.
