My question is whether others who are towing the approximate same size camper with an F150 EB are happy with it? Also, how do you feel about the following as it relates to your towing experience:
EXTREMELY Happy with my truck
Does the tongue weight feel like more than the 150 can handle and cause you to feel like you are popping a wheelie?
I was towing a 35' hitch to bumper Outback, 7600#, 900# tongue dry and had a little sag in the rear. I installed Timbrens and that solved that.
I added quite a bit of weight packing it with gear. Packing light to the wife is leaving the kitchen sink behind, everything else must go with us :( I never had a chance to get real weight numbers.
Do you feel a lot of sway and motion distributed from the camper into the truck itself?
Oh yea. It was the tail wagging the dog. There were times I had to slow down and get off the super slab and take the alternate slow road home due to cross wind and passing big rigs. Not enjoyable at all. There were times it would be perfect on the way out and a nightmare on the way home and I never figured out why.
The wheel base wasn't enough to keep it stable. The 150 didn't have enough a$$ for that camper. A long wheel base HD model would certainly be better.
I could improve it by packing it differently to better balance the weight but never eliminated the sway.
I had two friction sway bars.
My next step was to go to LT tires and an Arrow hitch but lost the camper.
Do you feel there is adequate horsepower and torque?
Absolutely. The EB had no problem moving that TT down the road and up the hills. It is a beast towing, no doubt about it. I tow a heavier 5th wheel now with No Problems at all. Now I have the perfect match.
If you have the 3.55 gearing, does it shift comfortably and is that a good ratio for what we are towing?
I have 3.73. If you plan to tow get the 3.73 minimum Max Tow package and preferably HD package. My payload is 2080# and towing is 11,000#.
Do you feel that you made a good decision with this truck and/or would you buy another one tomorrow if you were towing a similar camper?
Love the truck! I will buy another one. I live close to Houston and driving a 250 or larger as a daily driver in this big city environment is not for me. This is my fourth truck, all for being F150s and this one is by far the strongest I have owned.
We need to do something fairly soon, so any and all comments are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Good luck and happy camping. I hoed this helped.
