6.2L is a nice well proven engine for sure.. I would guess if diesel was 20 cents cheaper than RUL gas then the conversation would be different.
Not sure where the break even number is but recently the difference, in NC, has been low as .20 and high as .40 between diesel and RUL gas.
The cost of the engine especially new is hard to overcome for a lot of folks no doubt. One thing i see stated is cost of maintenance being higher on diesel but that is not all that big a factor.
yes you use more oil, 15 vs 6 qts but a diesel can go 8-10k or more miles before needing a change. Towing, a diesel will get better MPG and the rotation on the engine is less as they top out at 3200 RPM and most gassers need at least 3500 or more RPM to stay in the power band.
Towing out west I bet the gas guys wish there had a diesel at least for the day..
the right choice is the one you make with good due diligence before the buy.

I have a 6.2 and tow our trailer which is a little lighter than yours. We love the towing experience and the overall truck. It is a lariat so I got all the bells and whistles. I use it as my daily driving vehicle.
I have a little over 3000 lbs of payload which is more than I need now and even for anything I could possibly want to upgrade to.
Get the one you will be happy with.
