The yellow sticker is a compromise between marketing who wants the biggest number, legal who wants the least liability and engineering who knows the true breaking point of products.
Its up to you to decide who is likely to be closest to the truth. Personally I choose to stay below axle limits, no matter what vehicle it is. The axle has to be certified to carry and stop the rated load. Something to remember is that the axle rating is usually limited by tire capacity, so if you replace your tires, double check their weight ratings.
