Fiberglass trailer maintenance

We just got our Rockwood 2607 travel trailer and it looks great! The fiberglass siding looks great. My question is what is the best way to take care of the siding so it doesn't become chalky. Our last trip I looked at our friends Lance they baught only a few years ago and it looks terrible! I definitely want to take care of it. We have it parked next to our house so just the back and part of the right side get sun as well as the front and the roof. I definitely want to get a cover but I know it will be a chore to put on and off. Any go to products that you guys like for you travel trailer?

  • I treat my TT like my Corvette (show car) a good wash and wax using an automotive car wash product in the spring and quality wax, Next cleaning opportunity I use one of the new spray on waxes that you can wipe down easily. Do not use strong dishwashing liquid (like dawn) to wash your rv, this will remove all of the wax - always use a good quality automotive car wash cleaner to protect your wax previously applied while cleaning your rv (or tv) before applying the spray on product.

Its spring so time to get started on phase one - wash and wax!
  • With an orbital buffer it can still take a 8 to 10 hours of hard work. I susally do mine in stages, maybe an hour at a time.
  • How long does it take to wax an average TT? And how many bottles/cost? I'm getting ready to dewinterize and would like to clean/wax at the same time.
  • Give it a wax job at least twice a year. Meguires cleaner wax is good stuff. And no, the cover will not be a chore to put on / take off, unless you have physical limitations. Make sure you cover the tires while stored as well. Your friends TT looks the way it does because they don't take care of it. Not trying to be mean - just the way it is.
  • I use the Quick Wax spray version of the 303 and it has UV blocker in it. Easy to use, looks and feels great. I don't want to use a paste wax on it, don't want to risk hazing or yellowing.
