For those of us with GMC diesel trucks. How hard is it to pour a 2 gallon jug of DEF in the under hood fill area ? What works for you ? I know major truck stops have it on tap but what if I want to fill at home. Do you use a funnel or transfer pump. What works for you Thanks Jeff

The 2.5 gal boxes come with a spout that is 12 - 16" long.

I purchase my DEF from Wall Mart, usually is 'Blue Def". It comes in 2.5 gallon jugs and comes with a spout you attach to the jug. You have to make sure the spout is screwed on tight, if not, they leak around the threads. I always put paper towel around the fill port and drape some over the area where I'll be pouring to catch any drips. I also stuff paper towel in the overflow rubber funnel where the fill hole is.I always start by tipping the 2.5 jug just enough the flexible spout hits the fill hole and shove it in. I let it drain and then begin to life the jug slowly letting it fill. It's not rocket science, it's like filling gasoline into a gas tank with a gasoline can. I advise putting paper towel down over everything to catch drips. I never were gloves, and actually, I've never spilled or dripped any on my skin either. But I am careful, take my time, and don't let anything distract me when doing this either. DEF is very caustic. You don't want it spilled on anything. It will dry and turn kind like miniature white crystals. And even that is still very caustic. So clean up any spills immediately.

Maybe that's the difference in price .... the packaging!???You could be right about that, don't know how the Chevy fills but on my Ram I did not notice any difference in the spout on the WangMart brand about $7.99 and the Peak Blue DEF, about $11.99, and I've bought both in the past. The Peak might have a better spout but both have worked for me just fine. One thing I found out is that there is no "premium DEF", ie, one brand is not better than the other; it only has to meet a certain standard. It's kinda like when you buy isopropyl alcohol; buy the cheapest, it's all the same.

To read Peaks date code. DEF made today would have 2152018 at the end of the code. Which means it was made 215 days before Jan 1st 2018. Chris

Here is the last date code on a jug of Peak Blue DEF that I bought.

GA18297075, and the PROPER way to read this is : GA is the plant 18 is the year plus 1 , 297 is the days remaining in the year it was manufactured, 075 is the batch number.

I've also noticed that the house brand occasionally has leakage around cap and seal is questionable. With that being said I've been buying the Blue Def made by Peak.

I did not care for it in 2010 when I got mine.
Many years later, I don't even think about it. It has proven to be a non issue.

Moving it is not possible anyway.

If you are looking for a reason not to buy one. That will do as well as any other reason.

It's your money. Spend it how you want to.

Exactly... Too many people are to quick to give into the dealer BS and the dealers know it. Stand up for yourself.

why? If one off roads I could see where there may be a problem but normal highway and town driving is not a problem with damaging.

The burden of proof is on the DEALER to show the DEF or any aftermarket part you installed CAUSED the problem. Not many people realize this.

Dealers (and FIAT) buys their DEF from the same folks that fill up the pumps. There is NO DIFFERENCE between PEAK BLUE DEF at $12 at WANGMART and WANGMART'S house brand at $7.88. There is no "premium" or good, better, best, when it comes to DEF.

There were some reports of Ford and GM dealers telling people the same thing when they first started using DEF.... Ram is late to the party. I expect that these reports will diminish with time, just as the others did.

And yes, all DEF is the same.

I personally like to purchase it in sealed, date coded 2.5 gallon jugs. Contaminated or old DEF is a real concern, and can cost a totally unreasonable amount of money to fix.

Buying at the truck stops, in my mind doesn't save enough money to justify the risk.
I spend 8.00 for a jug @ wallyworld, 2-3 times a year.
A single DEF tank problem will cost a grand or so.

Being in Phoenix AZ, I also do not fill my DEF all the way up. My usage is low, so I just add a jug when the message comes up.

At out high summer tempertures, DEF life is drastically shortened.
