Finally, First tow with my 2013 Ram3500 Dually

HEY!!! Towed with my truck for the FIRST time today, towed my 39' 9", 4 slide 5er, weighing 16,050# with 3300# pin weight from WV to home in NC, 255 miles....Truck did an AWESOME job. I was impressed to say the least....It's the first time I ever used Cruise control in the mountains. Normally, too much down shifting, but thought I'd try it again and almost entire time I was on the interstate, I ran in cruise...I've tried before and it was a pain, but today, I was pleased with the way the truck towed and handled. I usually run 55-62 mph, but ran @ 65 mph in the 70 and 65 speed zones. Other times ran speed limits...50 miles of the trip was on some steep, curvy mountainous secondary roads, running 40-55 mph, or lower...rest was interstate..Got 9.9 mpg, hand calc..which wasn't bad I didn't think, seeing as how this truck is heavier than my 10 or 12 was and the trip from WV to NC is "mostly uphill". I alway's get better mpg when driving from my home to WV...

Could really tell a difference with take off, really got you going quickly and the Aisin with the EB was great in the mountains slowing the truck down...all in all I was rather pleased with the way the truck towed, handled and rode....Feeling better and better about this purchase:).

  • I test drove a 2013 Ford 3500 DRW King Ranch....it was more expensive and, once again, Ford wanted no part of my money....I have no clue as to how the Ford would have done towing my 5er through the mountains, as you have no idea how my 2013 Ram would do:)

Good to hear. I figured the new RM would be quite an improvement over even your '12. Now you have an idea what a Ford is like. :D

    Hey Jim.
I never did read if you ever posted why you traded the 12 for this one?

I'm an idiot:)....I ordered this 2013 Dec. 5th, to be my "retirement" truck.....couldn't find out what they were going to charge for the truck and a month into the order, had no clue as to when it was even going to be built....Ended up getting an awesome deal on a 12'...THEN, in May, the truck I ordered came in...."they gave me a deal I couldn't refuse":B I've been with the dealership since 96 and between family and friends have sent them a LOT of business, so when the 13' came in, they gave me what they charged me for the 12'.....anyway, long story short...I got the 13' that I ordered as my retirement truck, even got a Chrysler Max Care extended warranty out of it, 7yr/100,000 mile zero deductible that Chrysler/the Dealership gave me in June due to the fiasco with the picture frame adapter that was to go with the GN/5er prep package I had ordered...I cancelled all of my planned camping trips due to not being able to tow...thus the reason, two months after I bought the truck, I was given the extended warranty....works for me:)

anyway, that's pretty much the reason I traded the 12' after only 5 months. I had ordered the 13' with new frame, new suspension, the Aisin and ended up with it May 9th..yep, I'm a 63 yr old idiot.

  • With the price of these new trucks, we have to expect them to meet our needs. It's good to hear yours is meeting your expectations!

Dodge has really stepped up their game, power and payload. It should be an awesome truck, glad you like it!
