Well, we finally got a dually...

Just not a Truck Camper I'm afraid. It does drive better than our old F350/Alpenlite combo --- a foot longer, 6 inches wider, about the same weight. A 157 inch wheel base instead of 172 inches. I hope I don't miss the 4x4.

  • Congratulations.
    I guess you don't need pick-up anymore?
Each kind of RV delivers more of something, while less of other stuff, so it is always matter of figuring out priorities.
    Enjoy camping.
  • Not for rving. I still have the truck for work. I'm a general contractor and my truck is stuffed with toolboxes and tools. It took all day to empty the truck and load the camper. That's over with.
  • I am retired General Contractor as well.
Now the time you saved on cleaning the pickup, you will spend on checking new vehicle oils, tire pressure and other stuff.
For me going to TC was simple economic. I did not use RV a lot after boys moved out and could not stand paying all the fees, while watching the tires rotten.
Fact is that when I had ClassC years ago, I work for the mill where they call me almost every weekend.
So suddenly one Friday they told me I can have weekend off.
That were the times when we did not have cellphones, so I could not call wife. We left in motorhome 1.5hr after I got home regardless.
  • Ha! Ha! You got me. As long as you can still get out there on the road with all the comforts of home ... it's all good :)
  • Very nice!

Cathy and I have been looking at smaller class C units. Maybe a change for us in the future?
  • never seen a dually with hubcaps pointing out on rear. usually its dished in on the rear. looks like its only got single tire on the rear.
  • No. It definitely has dual rear wheels --- just seriously funky hub caps. My next upgrade is to replace the hub caps.

So far, we are really happy with the "C".

It is a foot longer and 6 inches wider than the f350-Alpenlite. It weighs about the same and drives much nicer.

I can finally say that all the Dually supporters on this forum are correct. A dually drives way better than a SRW.

For example: On the highway, i'd set my F350 Rancho 9000s at 8 or 9 and the air bags to 75psi. When I got to an unpaved Forest Service road, I'd dial it down to 1 or 2 and 20 psi.

The Minnie handles both Highway and FS Roads well, no adjustments needed. Just go.
