Finding Wall Studs in rear of Travel Trailer

I recently purchased a 2016 Avenger 25RL, (Forrest River/Prime Time Mfg), and have found that the factory TV antenna doesn't work well at our favorite park. I have purchased a "long range" antenna, and am trying to find how to install a bracket to the rear of the TT. The antenna will be setup when arriving at the park, taken down for transport. Can someone give me some help in finding the studs in the rear wall? I checked with the dealership, and they didn't have any blueprints or schematics that show the stud placement.

Thanks in advance
  • Northwood is worth a call. Besides the wires are run up the corner and across the top so they should,nt be a factor in where you drill.
  • I called Northwoods for a printing/copy of the sidewall to find the aluminum stud location for my 26X. I had them within a week.
  • I want to install a ladder on the back of my Northwoods trailer but have run into difficulties. I can find studs with my stud finder but I know there is electrical and plumbing in the back wall. I contacted Northwoods for wall schematics but they sent me a 16 year old electrical layout drawing that is totally different and utterly useless to me. I politely asked again for a blueprint or wall schematic to help me but it looks like I don't even deserve a reply to my emails anymore. It's too bad when you think you are buying a quality built product with good customer service only to find out they are all about initial sales and then you are on your own.
  • One of the better stud finders will probably locate the framing. Primetime states a 2" stud on 16" center so if you can locate a screw in the wall, nearby studs can be found by measuring from that fastener.

FWIW, I use an antenna on a mast. The mast fits into a mast bracket attached to the side wall of my trailer. I haven't had any issues with the bracket and sometimes leave the antenna up for months while in storage. The bracket is attached using larger screws, fastened through the aluminum siding and into the wood stud.

Does your factory HDTV Antenna look like this... This is about as good of a roof mount RV antenna as you can get... This antenna is a crank-up and can manually rotated from inside your trailer with a hand crank in the ceiling...

What kind of antenna did you have...

We pick up all kinds of full blown Digital high Definition TV signals using this type antenna...

Even you find out where the so called studs are they won't be alot of help for you. The RV studs are 1-inch by 2-inch deep or so... They will probably be aluminum studs You need to use the MOLLY TYPE BOLTS that spread out behind the walls.

  • To install an aftermarket ladder, I sent an email to Starcraft asking for a measured drawing of the rear of the TT. They replied with a crisp, clear, factory sketch the very next day.
  • I would suggest that you go to Lowes and buy a stud finder, they are pretty cheap. Good luck.
  • Why not use U bolts to clamp an antenna pole to your spare tire bracket on the back of your trailer.
