Easy, I'm a retired cop and have the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act on my side.
LEOSA is a nice exception if you can get it.
IMHO, "retired" is no longer "government" but citizen and should be constrained to the same laws as everyone else. I have my own opinion of whether gov't vs citizen should be different rules, but that gets into politics that are verboten here.
Maybe that would help fix the laws if those voices were added to the calls?
BTW, much respect for your years of dedication. ;) - BurbManExplorer IIJust curious, for folks that carry along a firearm when traveling, how many have needed to use it or even just show it for self defense?

Just DO NOT try it in Canada!
Good advice I took an unmarked unit over and they saw the cage leaving, pulled out and unit searched even though I told the I had left it at a PD just across the boarder.
I can tell you after a 25 year career, if I went through a vehicle it was because they were doing something stupid to draw attention and get arrested. It takes a search warrant absent arrest to search. - Desert_CaptainExplorer IIII thru bolted a small safe to the bottom of the closet in our Class C. My AZ CCW permit has reciprocity in 37 states but when in a state that doesn't I simply lock my unloaded {semi auto} pistol in the safe. The loaded magazine is in the glove compartment and my bride can access the gun in about 30 seconds or less. Loading takes about 2 and I am hot and good to go.
Legal, accessible and reasonably secure from the bad guys. Also makes for decent secure storage for cash, checkbooks, CC's, electronics etc. Could a determined thief get into it or rip it out? Perhaps but they will need more time and tools than most possess.
Works for me.
:C - old_guyExplorerjust stay out of calif and Ill.
- beemerphile1ExplorerLike others have said, it varies, greatly. You are better off if you take the steps to get a concealed carry permit in your home state. A Texas resident permit is valid in 38 states.
- ScottGNomadI carry a can of bear spray and since it isn't lethal, I would not think twice about using it.
