How do you split Chevy and GMC sales? Same truck, same company.
I've often wondered why GM still does it. Badge engineering has become pretty passé most everywhere.
I believe they came up with the 2 badges so other GM dealers, like Buick could sell a GM product without it saying Chevy on it. That's my theory anyway. - TystevensExplorerGM can't be happy that their new '14 trucks are barely outselling the last year F150. Presumably, there are lots of potential F150 buyers waiting for the '15s to hit the floors. I wonder how this chart will look next year?
- parkersdadExplorerRam is number 2 in truck sales! Trucks are 3/4 ton and up. 1/2 tons are cars with shoulder pads.

That is GM'S decision to have two different trucks. If that's the case then you could say the same thing about all of their auto's also. I said GM and Chevy trucks are the same and the GM boys slammed me. Now you guys want them counted as the same. Go figure, bet you want your cake and eat it too. :W

I am personally not a believer in the two separate truck company philosophy for purposes of totaling number of vehicles sold. I bought GMC's through the 2000's because I thought they looked better, and Chevy from 08 on to 12. The check still went to the same GM. It is the same truck for purposes of market share. If separating them for sales count purposes makes YOU feel better about Rams position than by all means do what makes you feel good. However when Chevy sells 300K and GMC 75K, GM still sold 375K trucks. - monkey44Nomad II

Well, as a long term GM guy, I agree with that, sorta, and wasn't actually combining, just commenting how the trucks related. In fact, if you look at GMC and Chevy now, there is quite a difference in "look" and some minimal difference in price. But, it looks like GMC is attempting to separate the two, and pushing GMC as a higher quality truck - particularly interiors -- and especially in the SUV models, not as much in the trucks yet.
But, same frame, same power trains, same wheels, brakes, etc. GMC seems to head into a 'luxury' mode, while Chevy remains the 'working man's truck', at least in the campaigns.
We went looking for a GMC in Feb/March ... a 2015 DC 2500HD, could not find one (not in production yet at the time), so found a Chevy and plunked down the bucks. Personally, I see very little difference, because I buy my trucks to work, not look pretty. SO, same power train etc, doesn't make much difference. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerThat is GM'S decision to have two different trucks. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerFunny part about that graph there was a time not so long ago that Ram was the bottom, now GMC and Chevy are the bottom and and Ram is number two in the HD segment. Combined they just bet Ram but on their own they are the three and four.
In the 1/2 ton market Ram bets GMC here also but Chevy has Ram by about 1/3 in sales. The next quarter is going to be interesting as the new Ram Eco-diesel sales are going through the roof with non ordered trucks only having 13 days or less on the lot, that is huge! Is it a fad as a few fan boys are claiming, only time will tell.

Interesting, GM twins combine to beat Ford in the 150/1500 market, but doesn't even get half/way in the 250/2500 market.
I personally believe it's the 'ride quality' that sells GM in the 150/1500 market, because a lot of buyers never use the 150/1500 truly as a work truck, it's more of a weekend yard work and light hauling for family projects, and even the GM interior looks like a car with a bed.
Whereas, the Ford really shines in the work/power category, so makes sense the ride would mean less at that level. When you want a truck to truly work, you care less about a rougher ride...
That's my opinion as a very long time GM owner and multiple GM trucks both 1500s and 2500s -- among a few other brands occasionally.
when you combine GM HD sales ford is only outselling them by 50k units. And this is an odd snapshot. You have leftover "old body styles" being sold and you have limited "new body styles" being stocked. have this same bar graph in December and look at the numbers.
